Chicken Cottage, a British fast food chain will open 50 branches in Kenya

Chicken Cottage, which operates 75 restaurants across Europe, Africa, Asia and the Middle East, will compete locally with fast food chains such as Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) which has 22 outlets.
During the week, Chicken Cottage, a British fast food chain, announced a partnership agreement with Express Kitchen, a subsidiary of AAH Limited, to open 50 outlets this year at Hass Petroleum service stations in Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda.
The first outlet is scheduled to open in Nairobi in April 2022. The partnership with Chicken Cottage follows a similar deal announced in November 2021 by Hass with US pizza chain Papa John’s.

The fast food chain‘s entry into the Kenyan market is supported by;
i) the need for the brand to increase its geographical footprint,
ii) Hass’s strategic approach to the market to attract customers who supply Chicken Cottage, which will increase their income,
iii) the young and dynamic population of the country which is expected to constitute a large part of the clientele targeted by the company, especially through e-commerce, and,
iv) The rise of Nairobi as a hub for international companies supported by developing infrastructure.
The performance of the retail sector in Kenya is expected to be supported by the opening of new franchises such as Chicken Cottage and the rise of e-commerce through online payments and deliveries complementing sales at physical outlets.
