“For all the memories of a Delhi kid from the 90s, thank you,” read a tweet, referring to the iconic hot Chocolate fondantCrispy desi pizza and 21 Love served by Delhi’s iconic fast food chain, Nirula’s, as netizens mourned the passing of “a fast food pioneer” Deepak Nirula, who died on October 4 at 75.

While Nirula’s was founded by the Nirula brothers, Lakshmi Chand and Madan Gopal, in 1934 it was Deepak – the son of Madan Gopal Nirula – who made the brand popular in northern India.

Remembering Nirula, the brand posted a condolence message on its official Instagram saying, “Mr. Deepak Nirula, a fast food pioneer, introduced cuisines from all over the world to India and founded the oldest and first from the country. fast food brand and thanks to him, people have explored so many flavors of ice cream.

“Thank you for giving us our first pizza, our first burger, our first ice cream salon experience, our first HCF with the drive of being an academic and making our first date so special. We will miss you, Mr. Nirula,” he added.

Born on April 3, 1952 in New Delhi, Nirula received his Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management from Cornell University in 1974. He has also been listed as an outstanding food service frame by ‘Marquis Who’s Who’.

The fast-food chain, which has 70 locations nationwide, is famous for some of its offerings such as ice cream, sundaes, burgers and pizzas, which many children of the 90s associate with their childhood. As such, Nirula’s demise has had plenty of nostalgic memories tied to the iconic brand, which is headquartered in New Delhi.

“Starter of an Era – Deepak Nirula will forever be an inspiration to aspiring entrepreneurs and visionary restaurateurs. Businesses come and go, there will be no other @officialnirulas,” one user wrote.

Another tweeted: “Deepak Nirula the person who gave Delhi the famous Nirula’s No More All my childhood memories are so intertwined with outings in Nirulas, Dating at Nirulas. Full school, college life revolved around Nirulas. Nutty Buddy, 21 Love, Rum Raisin, American fried chicken. Thank you sir.

“Deepak Nirula of Nirula fame is no more! What an institution he built – Hot Choc Fudge will always remain Delhi’s favorite dessert,” one user wrote on the microblogging site.
