Houstonians ready for a crisp, crispy, addicting fried chicken dish are in luck. Very popular Filipino fast food chain, Jollibee, announced its new Greater Houston store, delivering what it calls “Chickenjoy” to the area in fresh red bins.
The new outpost will be tucked away in Houston’s Westside at 13347 Westheimer Rd. And will open “before the end of the year,” the company promises in a press release. This new outpost will be Jollibee’s third location in the Houston area, after opening a bustling store in Missouri City earlier this year. The new Westheimer store, located in a major retail area, is a key part of expanding Jollibee’s footprint in Texas, according to a statement from the company.
This means locals can expect lively menu items, including:
- Chicken: Jollibee’s signature fried chicken is delicately hand-breaded to be crisp and crisp, with a special marinade to make it even juicier. The sides include rice and gravy.
- Happy spaghetti: The chain’s offering boasts a very whimsical banana ketchup-based sauce for a subtle sweetness. It is topped with pieces of salted ham and hot dog and topped with cheese.
- Peach Mango Tart: A great dessert for Houstonians in the car, this deep-fried pie is elegantly served in a hand-held pouch and features mangoes and a light, crispy crust.
For security reasons during COVID, the new dining room will remain closed until further notice. The Westheimer store will instead offer on-call pickup, take-out and drive-thru services. The plans also include home delivery via Doordash.
As Eric Sandler, editor of CultureMap, reported, the Philippine fast food giant caused a stir when it opened its first restaurant in Houston in 2013. At that time, the place served some 1,500 people per day ; fans were willing to wait an hour or more to get their fix.
Jollibee is the largest fast food chain brand in the Philippines, notes Teresa Gubbins of CultureMap, with more than 1,400 stores in her home country and more than 240 international branches, including in the United States, Canada, Hong Kong, Macau, Brunei, Vietnam, Singapore, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain, Italy and United Kingdom.
The first American store opened in 1998 in Daly City, California.
