Greggs is hoping to take KFC’s place in the fast food pecking order with a new offering of fried chicken.
The bakery chain is launching a new menu featuring southern fried chicken goujons (from £ 2.75), spicy BBQ chicken bites (from £ 1.50) and fried potato wedges from the south (from £ 1) in over 500 stores across the country, including dozens in Greater Manchester.
Meals will be available at the new “Hot to Go” counters, which are being rolled out after testing at 119 outlets last year.
The warm cupboards will also be stocked with new breakfast boxes (from £ 1.90) and jars of porridge (from £ 1.75) in the morning.

The new fried chicken offering will be available alongside the usual pies, slices and sandwiches from the bakery throughout the day.
But the chain aims to take a bite out of the tea-time trade with the new offering, with a number of specials only available after 4 p.m.
Take-out offers will start from £ 2 for a pizza and a drink after 4 p.m., or £ 4 for chicken goujons or a hot sandwich with wedges and a drink.
The new Hot To Go counters will be installed by September 21.
