McDonald’s is following Nando’s and KFC with supply chain issues, as Nando’s recently ran out of chicken due to a staff shortage at its suppliers and a reduced number of truck drivers delivering their products. Nando’s was also forced to close many restaurants due to problems.

KFC, one of McDonald’s biggest rivals, has also faced supply issues after having to remove many items from its menu due to shortages. KFC also closed many of its outlets in 2018 due to a chicken shortage that sparked outrage among many KFC enthusiasts.

Supply issues and shortages across the UK have affected many industries as there has been a shortage of truck drivers following new post-Brexit EU immigration rules, Covid restrictions: 19 and many drivers having to isolate themselves.

Many business groups representing the transport and retail sectors have called on the government to review plans to not grant temporary work visas to EU truck drivers.

A spokesperson for McDonald’s reportedly said they are currently struggling to supply products, but “are working hard to get these items back on the menu.”
