Over the next few weeks, Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen will open its first store on Vancouver Island.
The popular fast food restaurant had hoped to open its location in the Tuscan village of Saanich in July. The company had to postpone the opening due to supply chain issues related to the pandemic and construction delays.
“We worked [since] before the pandemic by actually looking at this place, ”said regional director Bilal Muhabat. “It has been a long time and like everyone else it was a challenge for us to make everything possible and it took a long time but finally we are here.”
Muhabat says that due to delays in completing the restaurant, the Louisiana-based company has been forced to delay opening its first location on Vancouver Island on more than one occasion.
“It has been very difficult and a number of factors have delayed our plans to open,” Muhabat said. “Construction delays and supply chain issues the industry is currently facing. “

Muhabat says Popeyes carefully selected the site for Greater Victoria’s first fast food restaurant.
“When choosing a new location, Popeyes looks at traffic counts and population density,” Muhabat said. “This location near the University of Victoria certainly clicks on those factors.”
Muhabat plans to open up to five more franchises on Vancouver Island. He says the company hopes to open its second location in Nanaimo in time for Christmas.
“We are planning to open more sites in Courtenay and Parksville,” Muhabat said. “We are looking at opening more locations in Victoria, maybe Langford or Colwood.”
