I had heard of Jollibee a long time ago, didn’t know much about it but knew the chicken was supposed to be incredibly crispy.
It’s a very popular chain in Asia and has recently started to expand across England, with more and more stores popping up and introducing Brits to spaghetti as a side dish for fried chicken.
I was curious about this for quite some time before trying a few pieces of the menu, and there were some items that left me very disappointed.
There are definitely some things you should try, like the spicy chicken burger and fries, but some I would definitely avoid.
Spicy Chicken Burger Meal € 4.99
Jollibee is known for its crispy chicken, and there are two chicken burgers that get a lot of attention on the menu.
We went for the spicy and were impressed, the sauce has heat and the lettuce seemed quite fresh.
It came with fries (which were really good, although it could use more salt) and a pineapple juice.
It was probably the best thing on the menu and I would probably order it if I went back.
Spaghetti Joy – £ 4.39
I had seen that on all the advertisements, the famous Spaghetti Joy.
I found it a bit odd as a concept, as I don’t associate pasta with burgers in fast food but it’s a classic that is synonymous with place.
So we had to try it – it’s not amazing.
It’s simple and not that exciting and not something we never would have had again. And it looks nothing like what it does in the photos, instead being quite unappetizing.
Jolly Hot Dog – £ 2.39
The hot dog had cheese and some sort of sauce on top and tasted really strong cheese.
Although it was pretty average this was an article my friend couldn’t help but return to, although she found it disappointing she insisted it was “fine though” .
Chicken Joy – £ 1.99
We had a piece of the famous crispy chicken and it didn’t disappoint. It was not greasy and the level of crunch was ideal.
It could use more seasoning in the dough to make it a more enjoyable experience, but it’s a good alternative to KFC.
Cheese Yumburger – £ 2.49
It’s a burger, if you want a burger it will do but it’s not revolutionary.
I started to notice that this was generally the case with these items, which were slightly less tasty than McDonalds.
Chocolate ice cream cup – £ 1.70
It didn’t matter, it tasted like a basic fast food ice cream with chocolate sauce.
It could benefit from a greater range of toppings, as coconut seems to be the only additional topping that isn’t to everyone’s liking.
Sriracha Chicken Fries – £ 3.99
I really liked the fries although they would definitely be better if they had more salt because even with the perfect level of crispness they were a bit bland.
The chicken fillets were good but I found the sauce to make it quite soggy.
Asian Chicken Rice Bowl – £ 4.99
The coleslaw was good as was the gravy, rice and chicken. With the sauce added at home and the rice wrapped before eating, the texture didn’t suffer.
It was one of the best items on the menu but not nearly as good as the combination of chicken burgers and fries.
Steak and rice – £ 3.99
When I saw this meal, I really felt a little upset to try it.
To say it looked unappetizing was an understatement, and the burger “steaks” looked sad to say the least.
But it was surprisingly tasty. Texture-wise, it definitely has room for improvement, but it actually works quite well.
If you fancy something heavy, this could be the one for you.
I felt pretty tired after trying this food it’s quite heavy and probably best when looking for something fatty to fill you up.
