Fans of American restaurant chain Wendy’s are in for a treat when the fast food chain opens new locations in the UK this week – and its new menu has been released.
The home of iconic burgers like Baconator and Spicy Chicken Sandwich will open in three new locations for the first time in decades.
Bringing a brand new menu specially designed to whet the appetites of UK patrons, the restaurant chain will offer breakfast options and even a vegan selection.
Wendy’s currently has more than 6,500 restaurants in the United States and in 29 other countries around the world.
But after settling in the UK in the ’80s and’ 90s, the chain closed its outlets in 2001, citing property costs and overheads.
At the time, expansion was not possible, but now the American fast food chain intends to take McDonald’s down from the top spot by opening up to 400 outlets across the country.
Abigail Pringle, President and Director of International Development, The Wendy’s Company, said in a statement: “The UK is an exciting frontier for Wendy’s, serving as a fulcrum to drive growth in this region.
“Our vision is to be the world’s most successful and popular restaurant brand, and we’re on the right track.”
The first new restaurant will open in Reading on June 2 and will be Wendy’s first restaurant in the UK for 21 years, reports The Star.
A second restaurant is also planned in Oxford later, followed by a third in Stratford, east London, by the end of this year.

The restaurant, which is the third largest burger chain in the world behind McDonalds and Burger King, is famous for its variety of burgers, which range from classic burgers to burgers to unique croissants and pretzel.
Wendy’s also has chicken nuggets, fries and milkshakes on the menu, as well as Dave’s Single, which features a quarter-pound beef patty topped with American cheese, the Baconator, which features three slices of bacon, and the Spicy Chicken Sandwich.
There are even Baconator fries – bacon of course. And customers can wash down their food with a Frosty Shake, which comes in chocolate and vanilla flavors.
Vegetarian diners can enjoy dishes such as the Veggie Stack, a burger made with grains, vegetables and spices, Veggie Bites, baked potatoes and avocado vegetable salad.
Calorie counters may opt for lighter options, including Chicken Caesar and Apple and Cranberry Salads.
Like other chains, Wendy’s will also have a breakfast menu, which runs until 10:30 a.m.
Early risers can get items like croissant sandwiches, bacon for breakfast, and a variety of hot drinks, such as cappuccinos and lattes.
“We have researched thousands of consumers in the UK to really understand what they think about Wendy’s and what drives strong brand appeal,” said Abigail.
“We have used this information to inform and validate our core menu offerings for this market, including our bespoke square burgers. “
Following the launch of locations in Reading, Stratford and Oxford, Wendy’s plans to open hundreds of additional restaurants in “priority areas” across the UK, which could include major cities such as Manchester, Birmingham and London.
